  • Strengthening the province's position in the competitive world of international commerce is a priority for the Government of Nova Scotia.

  • The Port of Halifax is the deepest North American East Coast container port.

  • Nova Scotia is the closest mainland port to Europe and Asia, via the Suez Canal.

  • Nova Scotia is one day-sail closer to major northern European markets than any other North American port.

  • Halifax can handle almost one million TEUs ( a standard measure used by the shipping industry) without any major infrastructure change.

  • It is currently operating at half the capacity.

  • The Halifax gateway generates nearly 12,000 direct jobs and over $600 million in direct GDP.
